We’ve worked with Defected Records very closely for over 6 years, shooting all their e-commerce photography and producing regular social media and campaign content both in the studio and on location. In 2019, Glitterbox teamed up with iconic British fashion label Religion to release a limited collection, and we were asked to produce the campaign which was shot, of course, on the White Isle: Ibiza.

Our creative direction started with the problem - we were given one specific day that the entire campaign had to be shot - and ran with it. We would work with a ‘day into night’ theme to represent the island’s 24hr lifestyle, shooting from sunrise to sunset. It’s not the first time we’ve had to do this, and these are the type of shoots that really put the limelight on our philosophy of working with ‘good people’ - people who are professional, committed but also enjoyable to work with. The results are always better, the shoots are more enjoyable (as they should be), and the long hours become completely manageable.

From our studio in London we planned out the logistics of the campaign: travel, equipment and vehicle hire on the island, and location research. Locations were planned through a combination of those known to us already (from a previous campaign), contacts on the island, and that old tried and tested method: Google Street View. We’d also have a couple of days on the island before the shoot day to scout these to check light, orientation, access and so on.

On the island, locations checked and team prepped the day before, our shoot day began at 5am, covered five locations around the island, and ended at 8.30pm. This not only allowed for the photography campaign but also the video campaign shot concurrently by Maik Diederen. Good vibes all day, a tired but happy team, and a successful campaign by all accounts.

The point of these case studies is to give an insight into how we do the things we do, and although on the surface there may not seem many complexities about this campaign, its success and appearance of simplicity came from the extensive planning that meant everything could run so smoothly. Of course we need to carefully plan out the technical elements to a shoot, but it is just as important to remember the little things, for example giving the team enough rests and food throughout the day. Seemingly obvious, but so often overlooked.
